Ryan Justice tops charts in final practice session at Montreal
June 23, 2006. Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Ryan Justice, driver of the #38 Northwest Autosport Mazda, experienced the highs and lows of racing in the final practice session for Round Five of the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear. The Portland, Oregon native topped the charts for the second consecutive session, lapping the Gilles Villeneuve Circuit in a time of 1:37.017 (161.823 KPH), but also suffered a session ending incident and damaged racecar.
"I came up upon Dan Tomlin Jr. in the sweeper, as I came alongside he moved over a bit and I hit the wall," Justice explained. "To have our session end because of contact was disappointing as we would've liked to have tried a few more race setup changes but my crew has given me a great car and we'll be right back to where we've been all weekend, if we can all make it through the first corner safely the start then it will be an interesting race."
Kevin Lacroix, a resident of St. Eustache, Quebec, pleased the hometown crowd by posting the second fastest time of the day around the 2.709-mile circuit at 1:37.065 (161.743 KPH) in his #74 Uni-Select Auto Parts John Walko Racing Mazda. Adrian Carrio, driving the #14 Rockford Fosgate World Speed Motorsports Mazda, who sat on top of the time sheet for the first half of the session with a fast time of 1:37.155 (161.583 KPH), would finish the session third fastest.
Forty-two drivers participated in today's practice sessions ahead of Saturday's 26-lap event, scheduled to roll of the grid at 2:30 PM Eastern Time. Grid positions for the event will be determined by the current season points standings, with current points leader Daniel Herrington in the #3 Bluetooth SIG AIM Autosport Mazda starting from the pole position.
