Marco Andretti signs with MJ Motorsports for 2005 Star Mazda Championship effort
January 7, 2005. Carson, CA. MJ Motorsports announced today the signing of American driver Marco Andretti for the 2005 Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear. Marco, the son of 1991 CART champion Michael Andretti, will campaign the #11 Vonage sponsored Pro Formula Mazda for MJ Motorsports.
"We are extremely excited to have Marco as part of our team for 2005." said Team Principal Michael James. "The addition of drivers like Marco and large corporate sponsors such as Vonage further solidifies the Star Mazda Championship as the premier open wheel developmental series in North America. Marco has proven himself in other open wheeled series and we expect him to be just as impressive in the Pro Formula Mazda."
"This will be my first series in a car with any kind of real horsepower," said Andretti, "This year will be a great learning experience for me, I am in the best open wheeled series with the team that we think offers me the best chance to win. It feels as if I am taking over McDowell's seat from 2004."
