LADY LYNX -- SARA SENSKE SCORES A PODIUM IN PHOENIX

Lynx Racing driver Sara Senske, 20, of Kennewick, Washington, started from the front row and scored a podium finish on Memorial Day in the Star Formula Mazda race on the oval at Phoenix International Raceway. In qualifying on Sunday, Senske ran a 28.595 sec. lap around the 1.0-mile oval, placing her on the front row for the 50-lap race next to pole-sitter Grant Ryley who ran a 28.567 sec. lap. Third was Senske's teammate on Kent Stacy's championship-winning S3 racing team, Joey Hand, at 28.646 sec. The race was run at 9:00 a.m. Monday morning, Memorial Day, and Senske got a good start, but was forced to back off the throttle just a bit by traffic and slipped back into fifth. Fate took a hand when several cars in front of her tangled on the front straight and yet another ran out of gas just before the finish. "We ran really well, but we had some luck, too," said Senske. "The handling of my car deteriorated quite a bit during the race and it began to push in the turns which kept me from charging harder. But the team is really working well and communicating well now, and every time we go out we're more competitive and I learn something useful. I just have to keep my head in the game and work as hard as I can and I know the rest of the season will produce even better results." The next event on Senske's Formula Mazda schedule is a Sports Car Club of America national race at Willow Springs Raceway in Southern California on June 12 - 13. Senske also plans to attend the Budweiser/G.I. Joe's 300 at Portland International Raceway on June 20 to show her support for Memo Gidley, the latest Lynx Racing graduate to make it to the CART FedEx series. Gidley will be driving for Walker Racing in the Walker Racing/Alpine/ Honda in road course and street circuit events.
