JUSTICE WINS STAR MAZDA RACE AT LAGUNA SECA

MONTEREY, Calif. (Oct. 21, 2006) -- Ryan Justice started on the first row and won the final race of the 2006 season in the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear. Justice led every lap of the race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

Goodyear is the exclusive tire provider for Star Mazda racing. That includes the national series and all the regional racing programs. There were 41 cars in the starting field at the Mazda track.

Mike Potekhen finished second, followed by Adrian Carrio, Kevin LaCroix and Mark Wilkins.

The race was a wild affair with drivers dicing with each other on every portion of the 2.23-mile track. The pace was slowed by several caution periods. There were 31 cars on the lead lap when the event ended.

Gerardo Bonilla, who clinched the Expert Class for drivers aged 30-44, finished his day upside down in a gravel pit in turn five. But he said, "Before that, the car was great. I was working with the (suspension adjustment) bar and its handling improved. We were doing fine." Phil Fogg Jr. won the race-within-a-race for the Expert drivers.

Doug Peterson won the Masters Class title for drivers aged 45 and above when he won the class and finished 12th overall.

John Walko Racing won the team championship.

The race was scheduled for 45 minutes and the field completed 21 laps.
