JDC MOTORSPORTS RESUMES STAR MAZDA TITLE CHASE IN UTAH
Minnesota-based team poised to contend for both overall and Masters Series honors in Round Three
MINNEAPOLIS, MN. (May 12, 2009) -- JDC MotorSports having won the season-opener and placed three drivers on the podium in the second race of the season, enters Round Three of the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear at Miller Motorsports Park on May 16, poised to continue its pursuit of a second series title. Driving for the Minnesota-based squad in Utah will be championship co-leader Adam Christodoulou, championship co-runner-up Joel Miller, former series race winner Alex Ardoin, series front-runner Caio Lara, Masters Series championship leader Michael Guasch and Masters Series championship runner-up Gerry Kraut.
England's Christodoulou has been one of the early season sensations of the 2009 Star Mazda Championship, scoring a commanding victory in Round One and leading the title chase after two races. That being said, the driver of the No. 11 Red Line Oil/JDC Motorsports entry believes he can still improve, particularly after a disappointing seventh place result in Round Two, having led every session prior to the race.
Miller travels westward for the third race of the season, set to build on a strong start to the 2009 campaign at a track where he has previously enjoyed success. Piloting the No. 2 Red Line Oil/JDC MotorSports car, the Californian scored his first podium finish (third) in the most recent race at Virginia International Raceway, and finished third at Miller Motorsports Park in 2008.
A series veteran, Ardoin is well aware of what it takes to win races and challenge for the series title. With that in mind, the Louisiana native returns to the seat of his No. 51 Oral & Facial Surgery Center/Red Line Oil/JDC MotorSports car poised to build on his second place result in Virginia and better his two previous 10th place finishes in Utah.
For Lara, the third race of 2009 will not only provide the chance to extend his top-10 result streak, but the opportunity to put behind him perhaps the worst result of his two-year Star Mazda career, a crash in the opening lap of last year's event at Miller Motorsports Park. Given the speed the Brazilian has show thus far in the No. 19 Red Line Oil/JDC MotorSports entry, many expect another strong result for the JDC driver.
Guasch's first-season with JDC MotorSports thus far has been virtually perfect. The Californian in his No. 91 Molecule/Red Line Oil/JDC MotorSports entry has not only started both races of 2009 from the Masters Series pole position, but also scored the win, and focused on extending the win streak to three.
Kraut, the team co-owner, makes it two Masters Series standouts under the JDC banner, thanks to a pair of class runner-up finishes thus far in 2009. The No. 55 Dougherty & Co./Dougherty Funding LLC/Red Line Oil/JDC MotorSports race pilot enters the event at Miller Motorsports Park having captured the Masters Series win in his only previous start at the Utah track last year.
The JDC MotorSports race pilots will get behind the wheel commencing on Thursday (May 14) via a pair of promoters' test sessions. One day later, the action officially gets underway at Miller Motorsports Park with two 45-minute practice sessions. Following qualifying on Saturday morning (May 16) to set the grid, Round Three of the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear will feature the traditional standing start at 6:05 p.m. (local time).
