Christodoulou Joins JDC Motorsports For 2009 Star Mazda Championship; The reigning British Formula Renault champion will make his North American racing debut in Round One at Sebring International Raceway
MINNEAPOLIS, MN. (March 17, 2009) -- From its transporter in Sebring, Florida, JDC MotorSports has announced a surprise last minute addition to its driver line-up for the 2009 Star Mazda Championship Presented by Goodyear. Reigning British Formula Renault champion Adam Christodoulou has joined the team, signing with JDC for the entire 13-race schedule. With the addition of the talented British driver, the Minnesota-based squad now has four very skilled drivers (Christodoulou, 2008 series runner-up Joel Miller, series race winner Alex Ardoin, and returning front-runner Caio Lara) set to contend for overall championship honors, in addition to two of the leading candidates (Masters runner-up Gerry Kraut and class race winner Michael Guasch) for the Masters Series title.
Piloting the No. 11 Redline Oil/JDC MotorSports entry, Christodoulou will make his North American racing debut at the Star Mazda Championship season-opener on March 20th at Sebring International Raceway, following last-minute negotiations with JDC MotorSports. While the English driver has not previously raced a Star Mazda Championship car, he has already shown the speed to challenge for the series title after posting the fastest time in three of the five sessions during official series "Spring Training" testing at Sebring in late January.
Christodoulou, a resident of Lichfield, England, enters the 2009 Star Mazda Championship having quickly established himself as a rising star in the junior formula car ranks. After initially finding success in karting, he made the move to cars in 2006 via the British Formula Renault Winter Series, finishing 10th in the four-race championship. The following season he contested the entire British Formula Renault Championship and selected rounds of the Formula Renault Northern European Cup series. Running a total of 28 races, Christodoulou finished on the podium nine times and captured three pole positions, finish fourth overall in Great Britain and eighth in Northern Europe. Returning to the class in 2008, the 19 year-old was the driver to beat in the British Formula Renault Championship, winning seven times, standing on the podium 11 times and starting from the pole position six times, en route to the series title.
"We are excited about adding Adam to our driver line-up for 2009," stated team co-owner John Church, "He showed during the series test back in January that he is a very talented driver, and we look forward helping him achieve his goal of a series title this year."
Christodoulou and the entire JDC MotorSports crew are currently at Sebring International Raceway taking part in the 2009 Star Mazda Championship Presented by Goodyear season-opening event.
