Drivers competing in the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear and the USF2000 National Championship presented by Cooper Tires and powered by Mazda will take to the .686-mile O'Reilly Raceway Park during an open test on Wednesday, May 5 and Thursday, May 6 in preparation for their races during the Night Before the 500 show there on Saturday, May 29. Attached is a testing schedule and a fact sheet.
This will be the first time the Star Mazda Championship will compete at the facility and marks a return for the newly revitalized USF2000 series. The test session will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day and a detailed schedule is attached.
This test is not open to the public, but drivers will be available for interviews and B-roll gathering purposes during the course of the test. More than 20 drivers from the Star Mazda Championship are scheduled to attend, including current point leader Conor Daly. He won the most recent race at St. Petersburg, Fla. Daly was born in Indianapolis, resides in Noblesville and is the son of F1 and Indy Car legend Derek Daly.
The top USF2000 competitors will also be getting acclimated to the oval and working on their set-ups. They include Andretti Autosport's Sage Karam of Nazareth, Pa., who dominated the season-opening doubleheader on the St. Petersburg street course. Patrick McKenna, Terrick Mansur and others are expected to use the test so they will have something for Karam for Round 3 of the series on May 29.
When you arrive at O'Reilly Raceway Park please stop at the new administrative offices to sign the waiver and you will be allowed to enter the oval. Please use the infield tunnel located at the exit of Turn 4, as the back oval gate will be closed the majority of the day.
The Star Mazda Championship, USF2000 and Firestone Indy Lights make up the recently established Road to Indy program. Road to Indy is the best way for open-wheel racers to hone their skills and develop their talent to race in the IZOD IndyCar Series and the Indianapolis 500.
The USAC Mopar Midget National Championship will run in conjunction with Star Mazda and USF2000 at the Night Before the 500 show. Reserved tickets are only $25 for adults, and general admission is only $20. Children 12 and under are free.
