Hollings Joins Andersen Racing for Sebring Star Mazda Race
FAIRFIELD, N.J., March 1 - Andersen Racing is pleased to announce that British Formula 3 driver Charlie Hollings will compete in one of its four entries in the season opener for the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear March 17 at Sebring International Raceway in Sebring, Fla.
Hollings, 23, of Yorkshire, England, finished fifth last year in the British Formula 3 national championship with four victories, eight pole positions and 12 podiums. He drove for the widely-regarded Promatecme team.
The Formula 3 series is contested on some of the greatest race tracks in Europe, but the Sebring race will be Hollings' first in America. He did test a Star Mazda car for another team in January at Buttonwillow Raceway Park in California. Although he hasn't driven on the Sebring course before he's been to the facility, as he attended a champ car test there with his close friend and advisor, Darren Manning, during the off season.
"The Sebring race will be my first time racing in America, and I'm looking forward to it," Hollings said. "Although the Star Mazda is slower than the F3 car that I'm used to, I enjoyed driving the car [at Buttonwillow]. We had very quick times in only one day in the car, and I'm confident that I can be a contender at Sebring."
In addition to Manning, Hollings queried other British drivers who have competed at Sebring in the featured event on the weekend card, the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, for information about the track. "They said the course is quite bumpy, and I think it'll be quite a bit hotter than what I'm used to, and quite physical, and hard work, really," Hollings said. "I've been training hard though, so hopefully I'm ready for it."
"We're delighted to add someone as talented as Charlie Hollings to our driver lineup for Sebring, as he brings great open-wheel experience and maturity," said team owner Dan Andersen. "With our car, crew and experience, he should be at the front of the field. We are hopeful that a successful outing will enable him to finalize a deal with us for the season, thereby filling our fourth and final seat."
Hollings' Star Mazda car will be sponsored by Hollings, manufacturers of quality pet foods and natural dog treats which are distributed throughout Europe.
Details on Hollings' racing career, which started in karts and then proceeded to other successes in Formula "A," Formula Ford Zetec and Formula Renault prior to Formula 3, can be found on his Web site at charleshollings.com.
Hollings' teammates at Andersen Racing for the Sebring season opener will be Brad Jaeger of Cincinnati, Gerardo Bonilla of Orlando, Fla., and Ramiro Scuncio of Argentina.
