OVAL ROOKIE NAVARRO FINDS COMFORT ON GOODYEAR TIRES

MILWAUKEE, Wisc. (June 22, 2009) -- The Milwaukee Mile conjures up images of motor racing's elite racing wheel to wheel, lap after lap. The track is among America's classic oval facilities.

You think of Foyt and Andretti, Mears and the Unsers. You think of Johnny Rutherford.

Maybe someday you'll think of Navarro.

Denis Navarro made his first oval track start on one of America's most historic tracks, the Milwaukee Mile, over the weekend when the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear raced at the facility for the first time.

Navarro, 22, is a native of Brazil and he turned his first oval laps here during Friday's practice sessions. And, like many drivers before him, Navarro competed at Milwaukee on consistent, reliable Goodyear Eagle radial tires.

"For someone who has always raced on a road course, it (racing on an oval) was different," Navarro said. "But, after a while, I was starting to fall in love with it."

Goodyear is the exclusive tire provider for the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear and has been since the inception of the series. Goodyear began supplying the teams with radials at the start of the 2008 season. The Series has held previous races on ovals, but the weekend's race was the first on an oval using the radial tire package.

Navarro, whose native language is Portuguese, said in English, "This is my very first oval. I feel good with the tires."

Navarro drives for Anderson Racing, a powerhouse team in the Star Mazda Championship.

Navarro took advantage of Friday's two practice sessions, turning more than 90 laps both times. He turned the 12th fastest time in the second session, tripping the clocks in 28.32 seconds around the mile oval. The best lap for the session was the 27.97-second lap turned by Navarro's Anderson teammate, Richard Kent.

Navarro finished 13th in the race. He was on the lead lap at the end of the race.

The Star Mazda Championship shared the track with NASCAR's Nationwide Series and Camping World Truck Series.
