Second annual celebration of women in the motorsports industry
Phoenix, Ariz. -- June 1, 2004 -- Star Mazda racer Gabi DiCarlo was recently recognized for her racing achievements at the second annual "Women in the Winner Circle," benefiting the Lyn St. James Foundations.
DiCarlo, a former graduate of the Lyn St. James Driver Development Program, is a Formula Mazda racer in the Star Mazda Western Championship. DiCarlo's last two races have resulted in her racing career's first two podium finishes. Additionally, DiCarlo's achievements have earned her the recent title of 2004 Star Mazda Rookie of the Year.
"It is an honor to be among so many talented women and supporters of women race car drivers," said Gabi DiCarlo, an 18-year-old driver in the Star Mazda West Coast Championship Series. "It's the ongoing support provided by individuals and organizations such as the Lyn St. James Foundation that has made professional racing more accessible for women."
The luncheon event took place on Monday, May 24, 2004, at the University of Indianapolis in Indiana. Event attendees included winning women racers, such as DiCarlo, supporters and women who are actively involved in other aspects of motorsports. The event was a celebration of achievements and included workshops, conferences and forums on mentoring and leadership development.
