Frisselle Takes Sixth, Coleman Ninth
BRASELTON, Ga. (September 25, 2004) -- G&W Motorsports scored a pair of top-10 finishes in the Star Mazda Series race at Road Atlanta on Friday.
Nineteen-year-old Brian Frisselle (Kihei, Hawaii) piloted the Ventura Travel Services No. 15 Pro Formula Mazda to a sixth-place finish after a harrowing incident just before the checkered flag. On the final lap, two competitors running ahead of Frisselle got into each other as they entered the chicane at the end of the back straightaway. The collision sent one car airborne and collected several other drivers. Frisselle was able to escape the incident, but not entirely unscathed as he crossed the finish line without his rear wing.
The sixth-place finish ties Frisselle's best of the year and gives him his second top-10 finish in the series this season. Frisselle also finished sixth in the season opener at Sebring.
Sixteen-year-old Brad Coleman (Houston, Texas) was not much farther behind his teammate in the Podium No. 33 Pro Formula Mazda. After qualifying 15th, Coleman took the checkered flag in ninth place, giving the young rookie his third top-10 finish of the season.
The Star Mazda Series will now travel westward to Phoenix International Raceway for round nine of the 10-race championship, October 2.
