Canadian Daniel Di Leo takes his point lead to Canada
TORONTO, ON. - Markham, Ontario resident Daniel Di Leo (Di Leo Auto Sport / Select Auto Collision / WTF Solutions / Autosports Media) heads to the legendary Mosport International Raceway for round #6 in the Star Mazda Series Championship presented by Goodyear. Di Leo, who is coming off a second place finish at Portland Raceway will look to garner another victory in the only Canadian stop in the series Championship. The 22-year-old will look to take advantage of the hometown fans and stretch his lead in title chase.
Di Leo, a former multi-time karting champion and winner of the opening round in Sebring has finished on the podium in all five events of '04 and as the season speeds past the halfway point, he leads his closest rival by 25 points. Di Leo has been the most consistent driver in the series and credits his points lead to that success. "My goal this year is to win the championship. I know to do that you must finish and finish well at every event. I am going to drive hard every time that I am on track but I am not going to do something that will cost me points." Di Leo also added "This can be considered my home event but believe me, I have no track advantage. I've only driven this track once, and it was my first ever formula race at 14 years of age!"
Though Di Leo has been very busy with promotional activities and the daunting task of trying to secure sponsorship funds for next season, he still remains focused to the task at hand. "I want to move up to the next level and I know I must perform well to impress team officials and get the chance to do so." With this determination and consistency that has been displayed by Di Leo this season, he is giving a message to the media and his competitors that he is the real deal.
Daniel will hit the track on Thursday for his first practice sessions of the weekend. Qualifying will take place Saturday morning with the main event being run on Saturday afternoon. Fans can go online to the series website and check out news, results and up-to-date press releases for the Mazda series.
