Jota Sport has added former Pro-Am champion and BRDC Rising Star Phil Quaife to its driver line up for the 2008 Porsche Carrera Cup GB season.
The 21-year old racer will join Sam Hancock in Jota Sport's assault on the UK's premier one make category and gives the team, who make their debut in the Carrera Cup this year building on their ongoing sportscar success, two genuine title contenders.
Quaife romped to the Pro-Am title in 2006, winning half of the 20 races and finishing in the top ten overall on 13 occasions. He also claimed the Radical SR8 Enduro Championship that year and was named as part of the BRDC rising star initiative. Last season he made his international race debut with full campaigns in the F1-supporting Porsche Supercup and the FIA GT3 championship.
Quaife returns to the UK looking to use the experience gained in '07 to challenge for the overall Carrera Cup title. "I'm delighted to be on board with Jota Sport and to be working with Sam Hignett and my new team mate Sam Hancock," he said. "It's very exciting to be returning to the Porsche Carrera Cup GB and, having won the Pro-Am category, my aim now is to fight for the overall championship. To have both titles on my CV would be a great achievement.
"There are some excellent drivers in this championship, but I think all that I learned last year in the Supercup can make me a title contender. The car's new livery looks great and I can't wait to get behind the wheel."
Jota Sport Team Principal Sam Hignett added: "We are very pleased to have signed Phil. He proved in 2006 that he is a very capable driver in a Carrera Cup car and after a further year's experience in the Supercup, we have no doubt about his ability to step up and challenge for race wins and the overall title this year. As a team which is new to this championship, we are thrilled to have attracted a driver of Phil's calibre."
Rounds 1 and 2 of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB takes place at Brands Hatch on the weekend of 29 and 30 March.
