Queensland-based Carrera Cup outfit Team Terrier will expand to two cars for the remainder of the 2003 season, with team manager Russell Wright joining Jack Crocker in a second Porsche GT3 Cup car.

Wright has purchased the ex-David Scaysbrook machine campaigned by Scaysbrook at the Albert Park, Winton and Queensland Raceway rounds, and will make his Carrera Cup debut in the next round of the series at Sandown on September 12-14.

Crocker and Russell have campaigned two Porsche 993RS machines in the Australian Porsche Cup for the last three years under the Team Terrier banner (the result of the duos Christian names being put together), Wright winning Class B in 2002.

Wright has been campaigning the ex-Tony Quinn GT3 in the Australian Porsche Drivers Challenge series and leads that series, but will make the move full- time to the highly-competitive Carrera Cup.

"It's a pity in one way, to walk away from the series I am currently leading, but I need to look at my long term goals," said Wright.

"Jack and I have always enjoyed racing and running as a two car team, and for me, I see Carrera Cup as the ultimate challenge as a driver."

Wright's car will run with the #52 plate and take on the same white and green livery as Crocker's #51 machine. The major sponsor of the new car is Kingfisher Luxury Boats and it is also supported by Col Shipstone Smash Repairs, Porsche Centre Brisbane and Air Liquide.

Wright tested his new mount at Queensland Raceway this week and, while still not totally familiar with the car, ran some competitive times.

"I am looking forward to Sandown, if I can just stay out of trouble and not damage a clutch, I'll be happy for the first event," he said.

The nine-round Carrera Cup continues at Sandown in Melbourne next weekend.
