Salman sets early pace as rain greets GT3 Cup start

Abu Dhabi. Bahrain's Sheikh Salman bin Rashid Al Khalifa underlined his greater experience of wet conditions by setting the fastest time in official practice today for tomorrow's first round of the 2010-11 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East in Abu Dhabi.

Heavy rain just before the start created difficult conditions at the Yas Marina Circuit, but Sheikh Salman handled them best to clock 2:35.694, almost a full second quicker than Saudi Arabia's Bandar Alesayi in 2:36.607.

Moments after setting the second fastest time Alesayi skidded off into a barrier but was unhurt, while Saudi's defending champion, Prince Abdulaziz Al Faisal, was third quickest in 2:37.223.

Abu Dhabi's Khaled Al Qubaisi, 2:37.937, Saudi teenager Fahad Algosaibi, 2:38.493, and rookie Musaed Al Murar, 2:40.293, Al Qubaisi's team mate, completed the top six.
