Nicolas Armindo finished second at Istanbul, sixth round of the German Porsche Carrera Cup. He has now a good chance to finish vice-champion 2005, and still keeps some (little) chances to win the title in Hockenheim...
Qualifyings : 3rd
The Porsche Carrera Cup drivers discovered the Istanbul Park. A very technical and deman- ding track, where Nicolas showed a good poten- tiel right at the beginning of the week-end, with the best chronos in the two free sessions.
" A real "driver circuit", very technical, with a lot of up and down. One of the most beau- tifuls I ever seen... " In the qualifyings, the frenchman is slown down by several cars in his charging lap. He set the 3rd best performance.
" I was blocked in turn 8, wich cost me about three tenth of a second... I could have set the pole position... "
Race : 2nd
Nicolas had a good start, and overtook Richard Lietz right after the green lights. Then he began to follow the rythm of leader Christian Menzel. Both drivers quickly increased the gap with the followers. But the safety car went on track after Marco Barthlomeyczik's accident.
When the safety car came in, Menzel and Armindo kept their advantage, but Lance David Arnold is able to follow them. But the order won't change untill the finish line : Nicolas set a new podium position, but he lost two others points on Menzel, winner of the day, a very closed to win the title in Hockenheim.
" I am still satisfacted after this week-end. In such difficult conditions, Menzel experience's is a advan- tage for him. I had a good start, and I stayed right behind him for a lot of laps. That was very demanding for my tyres... I was very closed, but I was never able to catch him : I was faster in the technical parts of the circuit, but I had a lot of aquaplanning in the straights. Then came the safety-car, and I tryed to pass Menzel at the restart, but I did not insist... The problem was that we sollicited our tyres a lot in the first part of the race, and Arnold was able to follow our rythm. He had a best motrocity, but I could brake later than him... it's all about technical compromises when you race on a wet track ! And that was it : second place, not too bad. I have a lot of chances to keep my second position at the championship. Title is pos- sible, but it will be very difficult. I just want to win the last race of the season, in Hockenheim...
