SALE OF CUP CAR AUSTRALIA AND GT3 CUP EXPERIENCE
Cup Car Australia Pty Ltd has entered into a Heads of Agreement with Sherrin Motorsport Pty Ltd for the sale of Cup Car Australia Pty Ltd and GT3 Cup Experience Pty Ltd, CEO Jamey Blaikie announced today.
Cup Car Australia is the Category Manager for the Wright Patton Shakespeare Carrera Cup Australia championship. Its three-member Board of Directors comprises Blaikie, successful businessman and Carrera Cup team owner Tony Quinn, and Porsche Cars Australia Managing Director Michael Winkler.
Cup Car also operates a second company, GT3 Cup Experience Pty Ltd, run solely by Blaikie and Quinn, which currently provides Driver Training and Hot Lap programmes in Australia.
The second company is also involved in the potential sale to Sherrin Motorsport, with any purchase expected to be finalised by late November.
"I am delighted with what Cup Car has been able to achieve in developing Carrera Cup racing in Australia," said Mr Blaikie.
"Our local Carrera Cup racing is one of the most successful Carrera Cup series in the world, and having worked very hard for the past four years to get Carrera Cup where it is, it's time for me to move on and find new challenges."
To ensure a seamless transition across to Cup Car's new owners, Blaikie will remain an employee of Cup Car until December 31, 2006, from which time he will serve as a consultant until late in the first quarter of 2007. All other existing Cup Car Australia operational staff are expected to remain in their current positions.
"A smooth transition is critical if the high standards of Carrera Cup racing in Australia are to be maintained and the Porsche brand is to be represented in the correct manner," said Blaikie.
"Carrera Cup racing is in great shape and will continue to prosper in its role as the premier support category to the V8 Supercars."
