Carrera Cup driver stable in Westmead Hospital

Queensland driver Russell Wright is resting in Westmead Hospital after a crash during Saturday's qualifying session in the final round of the 2003 Carrera Cup at Eastern Creek International Raceway in Sydney.

The Gold Coast driver crashed his #52 Porsche and was taken to Westmead Hospital for x-rays and further tests. He has suffered two base skull fractures though has remained awake and alert since the accident and is expected to make a full recovery.

Doctors expect that the Team Terrier driver will be released later this week, possibly as soon as Wednesday.

Wright's team-mate, Jack Crocker, withdrew his car from the remainder of the meeting.
