Fantastic Start for Home Team Supabarn Motorsports

Canberra based Supabarn Motorsports team got off to a fantastic start in the third round of the Australian Carrera Cup Championship being held on their home track, Wakefield Park this weekend.

James Koundouris broke into the top ten, qualifying in 9th position, with his brother Theo closely behind in 13th position.

Qualifying was broken into two sessions today, with the fastest 50% from the first practice session, run earlier in the day, taking to the track first for 15 minutes. This was followed by the lower 50% in the second 15-minute session. This allowed drivers to get a clearer run on the tight, short track, reducing the possibility of traffic affecting the drivers qualifying laps.

Both James and Theo set times quick enough to be in the top 50% of the opening practice session and therefore ran in the first qualifying session. This forced them to sit and watch the second session to see where they qualified. The team were very pleased with how the session ended with both cars qualifying in the top 15 and James in the top ten.

Unlike many of the front-runners, James and Theo both ran just one set of new tyres in their qualifying session meaning they will have an additional set of tyres to use in the races over the weekend that start at 13:45 on Saturday 5th April.

The team's Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars are prepared and run by Michael Newton Racing and the team receives support from Supabarn Supermarkets and Dare Flavoured Milk.
