David Wall Fights Back

After a solid start to the weekend, young New South Welshman David Wall qualified in 4th place the Carrera Cup Australia round for the biggest weekend of Australian motorsport, the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.

David, who is fighting for a position in the top four of the championship so was looking for a solid result this weekend.

Race one on Friday saw David get a good start and was running in 4th place when he was hit from behind in forest elbow, causing David to spin and clip the wall.

The spin dropped David to the rear of the field, leaving him with a battle to fight his way up through the grid.

He fought back hard to finish in an impressive 12th position.

Fortunately, the car received only minor damage in the accident meaning the team did not have a big job to get the car sorted for Saturday's race.

Starting from 12th position, David fought hard off the start, sitting in 10th place after the first lap.

David gained another place and was sitting in 9th after 4 laps, charging hard with his lights blazing.

He got through on Barton Mawer into the chase on the next lap to be sitting in 8th place on the penultimate lap.

On the final lap David was right on the tail of the 7th placed driver and attempted a passing move on the final lap but just missed out on taking the extra place.

The race was reduced by 2 laps after the earlier V8 Supercar session ran over time, cutting David's charge through the field.

David is happy with how the car is handling and is looking forward to Sunday's final race of the round.

"The hit in race one has really hurt us this weekend, but we are finally back up towards the right end of the field," said David after the race.

"I love racing here and am looking forward to pushing further up the grid tomorrow."

Tomorrow's third and final race of the round starts at 8:45am just before the build up to the main race.
