David Wall Continues to be Mr Consistency
David Wall continues to live up to his reputation as Mr Consistency in the 6th round of Carrera Cup Australia being run at Queensland Raceway this weekend.
5th place in qualifying meant David has qualified in the top 6 at every round this year, one of only 3 drivers to have done so.
David comes into the round after his best ever round result at Sandown Raceway in June, a round that also saw him score his first race win in the category.
After the two practice sessions on Friday and the series test day on Monday where David topped the times, he was reasonably happy with how the car was handling and made only minor changes to the car before Saturday morning's qualifying session.
With the leading drivers separated by the barest of margins, the team needed to find the perfect car setup and David needed to put in a faultless lap.
David was unhappy with the way the car was handling during qualifying, but was still content to qualify in 5th position for race one.
Race 1 was an uneventful one for much of the field with passing opportunities very hard to find.
David struggled to get grip off the line and dropped to 8th position, running behind Rodney Forbes.
"Starting on the dirty side of the track made getting away from the line difficult. I did not have as much grip as I expected which meant I got wheel-spin and made a slower start," said David after the race.
"I tucked in behind Forbes and fought hard to get passed him all race but as with most of those around us, I was not able to find a way through.
"Tomorrow is another day and as always there will be very little between the top drivers so the race will be hard fought.
"I am looking forward to the challenge and hope to be able to put on a good show for my new sponsor, Payce Properties, who will be at the track to see me race tomorrow. Hopefully we can give them a result to cheer about!"
Races 2 and 3 will be run tomorrow, Sunday 20th July.
