Singapore puts Pedal to the Metal with Porsche Carrera Cup Asia

As anticipation mounts ahead of next month's 2008 FORMULA 1 SINGTEL SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX, the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia recently gave some lucky local residents and media a preview of the high-octane excitement to come.

As part of the build-up to the Porsche SC Global Carrera Cup Asia -- Singapore 2008, an official support race to the main event, a simulator challenge saw series drivers and guests test their virtual racing mettle in Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars.

Members of the local Singaporean media and some lucky radio contest winners went wheel-to-wheel with 2004 Porsche Carrera Cup Asia Champion, SC Global Racing's Matthew Marsh, Ringo Chong, and Team Porsche Club Singapore racers Greg and Gerald Teo.

Commented Porsche Asia Pacific's Motorsport Manager, Michael Dreiser: "This was a great way to give some local fans a taste of the extraordinary excitement of the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia. I have to say, the guests certainly gave our drivers a run for their money and there's definitely no shortage of talent here in Singapore! We all look forward to meeting as many racing fans as possible in the run-up to the race next month, and of course hope that everyone will come and cheer on our Singapore drivers."

The overall winner from amongst the local residents, Muhammad Faris Bin Abdul Mutalib, was rewarded with two, 3-day grandstand tickets for the 2008 FORMULA 1 SINGTEL SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX, and a chance to watch the Porsche SC Global Carrera Cup Asia -- Singapore 2008 live on the Sunday, prior to the start of the Grand Prix itself.

Singapore racing fans will have plenty of opportunity to get "up close and personal" with the teams, drivers and organisers of Asia's premier GT series with further radio contests on the Class95 Morning Show, two special events on September 20 and 25 at Bugis Junction, and a Porsche car display at the InterContinental Hotel from September 25 to October 1.

Supporting the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia are two of the most recognised names in international motorsport, Mobil1 and Michelin. Mobil and Porsche have been partners since 1996. Close co-operation in research and development has led to every new Porsche engine being filled with Mobil1 high-performance lubricant. Porsche Carrera Cup Asia drivers also have the advantage of racing on cutting-edge tyres supplied by series partner Michelin. The consistent performance and leading technology of Michelin tyres constantly improve the performance of many teams in international motorsport. The partnership between Michelin and the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia has emerged from a worldwide agreement signed between Porsche AG and the Michelin group.
