Porsche Gets the Party Started at Bugis Junction

As the excitement ahead of this week's 2008 FORMULA 1 SINGTEL SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX reaches fever pitch, the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia is helping Singaporeans fulfil their need for speed.

The Porsche SC Global Carrera Cup Asia -- Singapore 2008 Slot Car Challenge, held recently as part of the series' road show in downtown Singapore, saw members of the public pit their wits against the very same racing drivers who will take to the Marina Bay Circuit later this week.

Pictured here is the overall champion Jonathan Ong Meng Chiang, winner of a final shoot-out between contestants and drivers, who walked away with a pair of grandstand tickets, an adidas gift voucher as well as a customized race helmet by Mobil1.

Testing their slot car skills were Porsche Carrera Cup Asia drivers: Matthew Marsh of SC Global Racing and 2004 Champion; leader of the non-professional racing category Melvin Choo and Singapore's entry in the professional category, Ringo Chong. As well as having a pre-race workout on the slot car track, the drivers were on hand to sign autographs and meet their fans.

The slot car race winners were rewarded with prizes such as Porsche and Carrera Cup Asia model cars, Porsche premiums as well as adidas gift vouchers.

The Porsche SC Global Carrera Cup Asia - Singapore 2008, which counts as Round 9 of the series, will be held at 17:30 on Sunday, September 28, over 12 laps of the new Marina Bay street circuit as an official support race to the 2008 FORMULA 1 SINGTEL SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX.

Supporting the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia are two of the most recognised names in international motorsport, Mobil1 and Michelin. Mobil and Porsche have been partners since 1996. Close co-operation in research and development has led to every new Porsche engine being filled with Mobil1 high-performance lubricant. Porsche Carrera Cup Asia drivers also have the advantage of racing on cutting-edge tyres supplied by series partner Michelin. The consistent performance and leading technology of Michelin tyres constantly improve the performance of many teams in international motorsport. The partnership between Michelin and the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia has emerged from a worldwide agreement signed between Porsche AG and the Michelin group.
