Mates Formula Woman To Debut At Oulton Park

10 May 04.../Mates Formula Woman, the unique new motor racing series for female drivers, has amended series' plans and delayed the start of the innovative championship. The debut of the sixteen new female racing drivers has moved to provide the girls with more testing time prior to their first race experience. The championship will now begin at Oulton Park on 12 June, with a revised seven round series, culminating with the final at Brands Hatch. ITV will be broadcasting in the summer, details to be announced soon.

Meanwhile the 16 lucky girls selected from over 10,000 applicants have been testing at circuits throughout the UK. Series promoter Graeme Glew said "The girls are very close on times and I expect the races to be close and hopefully we will have a different winner at each race. The last two races at Brands Hatch carry double points which should create an exciting finale."

Formula Woman is Britain's first ever all-women motor racing series, with the grid of drivers selected through a nationwide search for talented, non-professional racers. The chosen 16 racers will drive specially prepared, identical Mazda RX-8's at some of the UK's best known race circuits.
