Chuck West has announced his decision to take a step back from his role as owner of the championship winning formula car team, World Speed Motorsports (WSM). Chuck West, founder of WSM, has cited a desire to spend more time with his two children and wife as the main reason for this decision. "Racing takes a lot of time and dedication and at this time in my children's lives I need to give my focus to them," said West "and with all of his experience and years of loyalty Telo was the obvious choice as my successor."

Telo Stewart will be taking over the reigns at WSM. Stewart has been with WSM for over seven years and managed the team for five of those. "Chuck's decision to pass his team on to me has been one of the biggest honors of my life," expressed Stewart. He adds, "and while this will be a challenge for me, I am looking forward to it."

Chuck West will not be out of the picture completely. West will remain on the payroll as a consultant and driver coach. This transition has been underway for the past month. "Chuck has been a big asset to the team and I am happy that he will continue to be," said Stewart.

The entire focus of WSM for 2003 will be with their Fran-Am effort. Stewart and West agree that at this time these are the best cars to train young drivers. "The handling characteristics of these cars are perfect for a driver who hopes to drive Toyota Atlantic, CART, Indy, or F1," said West.
