Jimmy Moon Scores Another win at Laguna Seca

The drivers of the Skip Barber Western Championship gathered at Laguna Seca raceway in Monterey, CA for the final round of the series this past weekend. Coming off two big wins in his first Championship class event, Jimmy Moon continued to impress onlookers.

After struggling with power issues and a four off, Jimmy was forced to start last for the first race on Saturday. Unfortunately the race did not go any better as a driver spun on lap one right in front of Jimmy and was gathered up in the incident which meant Jimmy was done for the day. The great Skip Barber crew stayed up late to fix the car and found that the "Super Trap" was clogged which was causing major power loss. Knowing this, Jimmy was ready to move through the field in race two.

For race two, Jimmy would start where he finished in race one, dead last. Jimmy got a great start and started ripping through the field passing at least one car per lap until he reached third place. Once passed series champ, Tom Roberts, Jimmy set his eyes on the leader. Jimmy caught the leader on the final lap setting him up for a pass in the final corner, turn 11. Going very deep and catching the car in a slide, Jimmy pulled off the pass of the weekend for the race win and fastest lap of the race and day.

"After I spun out in qualifying and crashed in Saturdays race I knew I had to focus on Sundays race," commented Jimmy Moon. "Coming from last to first was hard, but I just kept making one pass at a time then trying to catch the next car. I got a good run into turn 11 and I knew I had to make the pass stick."

After starting off the season with good results Jimmy was able to make a huge move up the standings to finish 6th in Series Championship with three wins. Jimmy also won the Most Improved Driver award. Jimmy was not the only Moon to win an award at the series end banquet, father Dean Moon won the John Bigham Award; Skip Barber's humanitarian award.
