Podium for Sunoco Team Ultra 94's Raimondo in round three; Raimondo and Vincec move forward in round 3
TORONTO, ONTARIO Sunoco Team Ultra 94 drivers, Gianmarco Raimondo and Mike Vincec, both had stellar drives in round three of the Skip Barber Southern Region Championship at Sebring earlier today.
Raimondo led the duo in qualifying with an eighth place starting slot. Vincec was right behind him in ninth. As the two got ready for the first of the two weekend races, the heavens opened, and that changed the complexion of the race.
At the start, Raimondo started to move forward straight away. Vincec was held up by another driver, but then he started to move forward. "I think both of them drove very smart races," Ron Fellows said. "Half the battle in any rain race is to make it to the end, and I am proud that they both did that."
As both drivers moved forward, they gained confidence and both came home with great finishing positions. Raimondo scored his first podium of the year in third, with Vincec right behind him in fourth.
"It went really well," Raimondo said after the race. "It rained like crazy at the start. Lots of drivers were going off the road. I think it was a good drive, and now I am looking forward to tomorrow."
"I was glad to see the rain," Vincec said. "My car wasn't that good in the dry, but it was much better in the rain. Now I have a good starting spot for tomorrow's race."
For Sunday's round four, both drivers will start from row two in the Championship class. Raimondo will line up third, with Vincec right beside him in fourth.
