Fontana produces first Formula Dodge National Championship top 10.

Franklin, WI. -Steve Welk raced to his first top ten finish in the second round of the Formula Dodge National Championship held last weekend at the California Speedway in Fontana, CA. The race was run on the tight 1.2-mile infield road course at the speedway, which provided a street race like atmosphere with low levels of grip for the cars and plenty of slow chicanes.

For race 1 Steve qualified in the 17th position out of the 22 competitors. This set up a masterful drive in the race, which saw Steve move up 9 positions to an 8th place finish, Steve's first top 10 in the series. He was able to make some brilliant passes and capitalize on mistakes made by his fellow competitors to solidify his first top 10. For his efforts Steve was awarded the races most progressive driver award.

Race 2's qualification round yielded a 7th place spot on the grid. Steve immediately improved on his grid position in the race and was running as high as 4th. It wasn't meant to be though as an off track excursion forced Steve to the back of the running order. He wasn't done though as moved up from the back of the field and was fighting for the 10th spot until the last corner of the last lap he was caught up in a wreck not of his making.

"I was very pleased with how I improved throughout the weekend. I worked very hard on my technique for this type of track and the results show that I improved every session. The first race was incredible; I can't be more pleased with how I was able to come up through the field. The second qualifying session was fabulous, that was a big boost for me headed into race 2. Unfortunately a minor slip up cost me a lot, but I am full of confidence heading into the third round at Putnam Park. I just want to thank Lake Front Technologies, Decal Works Racing, for their support and all the people at Skip Barber racing for putting on great event."
