Pre-season training resumed in Florida as the Barber Dodge Pro Series conducted a two-day test at Sebring International Raceway. The sessions were run on a newly configured course modified to add a series of fifth gear, high-speed esses along the back straight. The additional pavement meant lap times as much as 2.5 seconds longer, despite the gains made by a high downforce set up.

Several drivers, including returning Pro Series racers Marc Breuers, Davy Cook and Jon Vannini, gave up speed to concentrate on set up. The pilots worked closely with coaches Barry Waddell and Rocky Moran, making changes to their cars for the sake of change, experimenting with wings and spoilers and generating data for post-run evaluation. Akihiro Okamoto, the 2000 Formula Dodge Eastern Regional runner-up, did an exceptional job, posting a session-best 1:10.4 sec. lap time, despite his lack of familiarity with the car.
