Skip Barber 'BIG SCHOLARSHIP' All-Star Finalists Announced

LAKEVILLE, Conn. (Oct. 15) The All-Star finalists for the seventh annual Skip Barber Racing "Big Scholarship" Run-Off were released today. All nominated drivers are from one of the four separate amateur Skip Barber Formula Dodge (132 h.p., 2.0L) Race Series championships (Eastern, Midwestern, Southern, and Western). It was also announced that Adrian Reynard has joined the judges' panel. The evaluations begin Sunday, Nov. 9 at Daytona Beach, Fla., with a day at Human Performance International (HPI), Inc., taking its Physical & Mental Readiness and Autoracing Performance program. The on-track evaluations, with the All-Stars driving the current 3.2L, 240 h.p., wings-and-slicks space-frame Barber Dodge Pro Series cars, are Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 10-11, at Sebring International Raceway in Sebring, Fla. The winner, based on the judging of numerous attributes both in and out of the car, earns six paid races and testing (value: $75,000) in the 1998 SCCA Pro Racing Barber Dodge Pro Series championship, the first year of the all-new carbon composite monocoque Reynard Dodge. The "Big Scholarship" is the first plateau of the existing quarter-million dollars in annual awards that comprise the Skip Barber Racing ladder system: Formula Dodge to Barber Dodge to CART Indy Lights. The Run-Off judging panel is comprised of professional drivers Robbie Buhl, Dorsey Schroeder and Jeremy Dale; Adrian Reynard; noted auto racing journalists Gordon Kirby and Jeremy Shaw; and regular Race Series Observers Barry Waddell, Kelly Collins and Peter Argetsinger. Winning one of this past year's four Skip Barber Formula Dodge Race Series championships automatically qualified a driver; other "at-large" picks from those series were then chosen by consensus by Formula Dodge Race Series Observers. There are 10 finalists this year:

Anderson Chaboudt, 26, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 2nd, 1997 Eastern FDodge, 7 wins
