The Formula Dodge Eastern Race Series opened today at Virginia International Raceway outside of Danville, Va., and the undoubted star of the show was the all new Formula Dodge R/T 2000.

To a man, each of the drivers praised the new racecar, citing it’s great new looks and improved performance over the tried and true Formula Dodge. The new car which sports wings and revised bodywork by Reynard Motorsport, and new slick tires by Michelin performed flawlessly on it’s competition debut as five separate groups competed over the fast and picturesque VIR. The new car experienced none of the teething problems normally associated with a new racecar.

Overall, the drivers were unanimous in agreeing that the improved braking power was the single biggest improvement over the former car, stating that they could go deeper are harder into a curve without losing confidence. The car’s handling was the other major area of improvement. All of these can largely be attributed to the development that took place over the winter by both Reynard and Michelin, which both worked tirelessly to deliver a stronger package for the car.

The racing in the first day was scintillating, and not just because of the hot weather that greeted the racers. A full report on the weekend’s activities will follow this weekend’s races.
