Sebring and Homestead race-winner Nilton Rossoni of Brazil topped the test times in the last Barber Dodge Pro Series test prior to the summer swing that heats up at Lime Rock Park on May 26-29.
Lapping the Sebring test circuit in 1:08.78 sec, Rossoni was followed closely by Peter Boss at 1:08.85. Fast times were all set in the morning coolness as by mid-day the heat made the track too slippery to post any truly competitive times. Still the test was very fruitful for all that participated.
Sara Senske completed only one day of testing on Thursday and although her 1:09.52 time was just off the pace, it belies her progress. Senske completed over 200 miles of testing, continually showing improvement. Had she completed more laps in the morning hours and had a second day under her belt, she may well have gone significantly faster.
Venezuelan Milka Duno also had a very encouraging test, getting an abundant amount of seat time. She too showed her progress although not reflected in her best time at 1:10.42.
Canadian John McCaig made his return to the Barber Dodge Pro Series, and quickly proved his potential. McCaig's best time tripped the clocks at an impressive 1:08.87 despite not having been in the car since the final round of 1999 at Watkins Glen.
Fourth quick was Matt Plumb who showed up to the test to run just one tank of fuel in order to check his set-up for the upcoming Lime Rock Park round. He posted a 1:09.00.
Next up was Sebring pole winner Michael Valiante who spent the bulk of his two-day test experimenting with various set-ups to his Barber Dodge Reynard 98E. His best time came in at 1:09.13 having done most of his laps in the afternoon heat. Alexandre Sperafico followed Valiante at 1:09.30.
Rounding out the testing for Barber Dodge regulars was Formula Dodge Southern Series Champion Craig Duerson who's return to the Barber Dodge cockpit was rewarded with a fast time of 1:09.56. Jay Ricci came up next at 1:10.47.
Also attending the test Formula Dodge Regional Race Series veteran Chris Baker who turned in a best time of 1:09.53. He was joined by production car road racer Ron Johnson having his first go in the open-wheel Dodge-Reynard. He posted a quick time of 1:10.26. Also taking their first rides in the Dodge Reynard were John Hall with a best of 1:10.53, and Jeff Glenn who recorded his quick time at 1:10.58.
