LEXINGTON, Ohio (Aug. 9)- John Fogarty was one of the few drivers who welcomed the storm clouds that approached the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course Sunday before the start of the Barber Dodge Pro Series race.

A heavy downpour delayed the start of the Barber Dodge race and produced challenging circumstances for the drivers; how to negotiate Mid-Ohio's 2.258-mile road course on rain tires while the track was slowing drying after the storm.

Fogarty, who learned how to handle tricky situations on his family's California ranch, adapted the best, taking the lead from Todd Snyder on lap 18 to win his first Barber Dodge race. Nicholas Rondet was a distant second 16.513 seconds behind. Giovanni Anapoli finished third in his best effort this season.

Prior to Sunday, Fogarty's best finish was a seventh in the season opener at Sebring.

"I'm extremely happy," Fogarty said. "This year hasn't been going that well for me. In the previous race at Watkins Glen I did really well and I was actually kind of praying for rain for this race and I got what I wanted." It was a wild race. Fogarty, who started 12th, was the fifth driver to lead the race.

The top two drivers in the point standings, Jeff Simmons and Thomas Schie, spun while leading. Simmons finished 26th and Schie recovered to place eighth. Even Rondet spun three times.

With Schie's and Simmons' misfortune, Todd Snyder regained the points lead with his fourth-place finish. Snyder leads Schie by three points (85-82) with five races remaining in the championship.
