Capps on pole for his first ever road-race competition

LEXINGTON, Ohio (Aug.28) - If proof were even needed that NHRA drivers have excellent car-control skills, green Skoal Racing Monte Carlo funny car driver Ron Capps provided it today.

In this morning's qualifying sessions for Capps' Sportsmen race group in the Skip Barber Formula Dodge Race Series event at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, Capps took pole position -- in wet conditions.

Capps put up a time of 2:06.072 to best Mike Distaulo's 2:06.575. Tom Brown, Mark Fee, Rick Roso and Chris Weldon round out the first three rows, followed by Craig Sutter, Dereck Blinken, Andy Piscitello, Dylan Burnside and Mike Solley.

In what are expected to be hard-rain conditions, Capps' will take the green sometime early this afternoon. Where he finishes is where Capps will start for Sunday's second race of the weekend.
