Skip Barber trained Sam Hornish, Jr. has agreed to race this year's Porsche Pirelli Supercup in support of the U.S. Grand Prix as one of three guest drivers. The newly crowned IRL Champion will set aside oval skills to display his road racing prowess behind the wheel of a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup coupe.

The highly competitive field, which pits drivers against each other in equally prepared Porsche coupes, is a regular support act for the Formula 1 World Championship. The 11-race series has already raced at Imola, Barcelona, A1-Ring, Monte Carlo, Nurburgring, Silverstone, Hockenheim, Hungaroring, Spa and Monza this year, and it usually has two or three "guest" seats available for drivers who have a local connection.

Hornish, from Defiance, Ohio, clinched his first Indy Racing championship on Sept. 2 at Chicagoland Speedway. He recorded two victories and nine top-three finishes in 12 starts this season, his second in Indy Racing and first with Panther Racing. In addition to his success in oval racing, the Skip Barber trained driver also has extensive road-racing experience in Toyota Atlantic, U.S. F2000 and World Karting Association events earlier in his career.

The Porsche Pirelli Cup drivers will practice and qualify on Friday, Sept. 28, and will have two sprint races, one on Saturday at 4:00 PM and another on Sunday at 9:20 AM.
