ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (Aug. 16, from Rick Roso) - Rino Mastronardi showed he can master Road America in the dry as well as he did yesterday in the wet, taking the pole today, in near perfect conditions, for Sunday's Barber Dodge Pro Series race. The Italian was fastest in first qualifying in the rain by a significant margin and today Mastronardi, 11 points behind championship leader Derek Hill, turned a fast lap of 2:16.116 at an average speed of 107.062 mph to earn his third pole of the year. Hill will start second alongside Mastronardi, while Andy Boss, winner last week at Mid-Ohio, is third. Another title hopeful, Chris Menninga, suffered a major setback as a driveline problem surfaced just before this mornings final qualifying session and never got on track. He will start 28th and last.
