LLOYD SET FOR OPEN-WHEEL DEBUT AT HOMESTEAD MIAMI SPEEDWAY
Huddersfield's Daniel Lloyd is looking forward to a double career first just days from now when he makes his single-seater debut during the opening event of the 2010 BF Goodrich/Skip Barber National Championship presented by Mazda -- his first race outing on American soil.
Seeking the best possible move for his burgeoning career, the 2009 ELF Renault Clio Winter Cup title winner's decision to switch to open-wheel racing in the USA is the first stage of a plan to climb the motorsport ladder as quickly as possible, with the ultimate aim of becoming a fully professional driver.
Having spent the first two years of his car racing career in saloons, the talented teenager is fully aware the transition to single-seaters will be incredibly challenging. Nonetheless, he is relishing the prospect of his US debut in the 2010 Skip Barber National Championship next weekend, 5th/6th/7th March, at the world renowned Homestead Miami Speedway in Florida.
Daniel's official test debut in Skip Barber will come just one day before the season curtain-raiser, on his 18th birthday no less -- Thursday, 4th March, and from there he will undoubtedly face the steepest learning curve of his career.
"Everything has happened really quickly since we took the decision at the beginning of the month to race in America", explained Daniel, "It's going to be a huge learning curve switching from the Renault Clio to a single-seater, and especially on circuits I've never been to before.
"It's obviously going to take time for us to adapt sufficiently to the Skip Barber cars but it's a very exciting point in my career and a challenge I'm really looking forward to. My aim for the first event is two consistent race finishes, if we can lay down some solid foundations during the season-opener I'll be very pleased."
Rounds one and two of the 2010 BF Goodrich/Skip Barber National Championship presented by Mazda will be held at Homestead Miami Speedway in Florida, USA, on Saturday, 6th March, and Sunday, 7th March, as support to the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series.
