CLEVELAND (July 12, 1998) - Thomas Schie passed Nichols Rondet with six laps remaining to win the Barber Dodge Pro Series race at Burke Lakefront Airport.

It was the second victory of the season for Schie, who expanded his points lead to nine (73-64) over Todd Snyder with seven races left in the 12-race series. Snyder finished fourth.

Schie, who started sixth, squeezed through a multi-car accident in turn 1 at the start. He settled into third on the restart behind Jeff Simmons and Rondet. Schie, of Oslo, Norway, passed Simmons with 14 minutes left in the 40-minute race and then steadi ly closed the gap on Rondet.

On lap 20, Schie gained momentum as he exited turn 10 and moved to the inside of Rondet on the main straightaway, taking the lead as he entered turn 1.
