Johns Celebrates National Title at Investchem Pro Tour 2008 Grand Finale

Having secured, the 2008 South African National Formula Vee Championship and the MSA Northern Regions Championship, at Zwartkops, Dennis Johns (No2 Geyser Attorneys Rhema 2) goes into the final round, at Kyalami on the 8th November, without any pressure. This will allow him the freedom to enjoy the day and celebrate his second National Title, no matter what the outcome of his race may be. Attention now turns to the battle for the remaining top three positions and all the pressure, is going to be on Peter Hills (No3 Prolantic MLS Brokers Rhema 2), development driver Courtney Steenveld (No8 Indy Oil NLDTF Rhema 2), outgoing Champion Alan Holm (No1 Rhema 1), the other development driver Zaahir Essa (No71 NLDTF Rhema 1) and Trevor Bland (No6 Office Direct Waxoyl Rhema 2).

Hills must start, as the favorite to take the National Championship runner up slot, with only Steenveld having a mathematical chance, of snatching the position from him. If Hills does finish the year in second place, all the rest, are mathematically still in contention for third place! Hills has however, already secured second place in the 2008 MSA Northern Regions Championship, leaving Steenveld, Symm Grobler (No4 Auto Mecca Rhema 2), Holm, Essa and Bland, to fight it out for third place. Formula Vee also runs a competition, which excludes the leading National Championship contenders and favorite to take this title, must be Alan Eustice (No 77 Execuline Glasfit Rhema 2), in his debut season, with a host of other drivers squabbling over the runner up positions. This will ensure, tight, competitive racing, all the way down the field.

Other drivers worth watching out for, include Johan Gouws (No27 Computer Assemblies Mantis), Ben Pienaar (No101 BJ Pro Welding Rhema 2), Jannie Geyser Jnr (No63 Geyser Attorneys Rhema 2), Doug MacDonald (No18 Fantastic Racing Rhema 1), Nico Blignaut (No23 Gilus IT SAP Rhema 2), Jannie Geyser Snr (No64 Geyser Attorneys Vision), Andre Van Der Merwe (No51 Atlas Dry Cleaners Lantis) and Stan Alford (No84 Castle Graphics Rhema 2). Completing the field, for this close competitive single seater category, should be Hugo Wallendorf (No45 BJ Pro Welding Lantis), Andrei Overbeek (No78 Omega), James Evans (No30 Gilus IT SAP Tasman), Chandre Kruger (No41 Gilus IT SAP Sting) and John Lerm (No50 Vision).

The day's racing is sponsored by Investchem and Pro Tour concludes their 2008 racing season, with a festival of motor racing not to be missed. The event includes National Championship, National Challenge, Regional Championship and Club Championship races, for Execuline Shelby Can Am Sports Cars, Investchem Formula Ford Zetec and Formula Vee Single Seaters, the Exotic Altech Porsche Challenge Unlimited GT Cars, Altech Kawasaki ZX10 Masters Cup Motor Cycles, Goldwagen VW Challenge Saloon Cars, the Altech Porsche 924 Challenge, Handicap Races and a guest appearance, by the Lotus Challenge.
