Valvoline ProVee Series Coming to Summit Point Raceway

15 February 2002: The Washington DC Region of the Sports Car Club of America announced today that a Valvoline ProVee Series Championship race would be held in conjunction with the 2nd Annual Capitol National on April 6-7, 2002. The April weekend will mark the third appearance of the series at the challenging two-mile Summit Point Raceway in Summit Point, WV. The Capitol National is a qualifying round for the 2002 Valvoline Runoffs and the first round of the 2002 NESCCA Championship. The weekend typically attracts over 200 competitors.

"We are expecting at least 32 cars for just the ProVee race," said Bob Tupper, the Region's liaison to the series. Tupper added that "The competition should be fierce. Last year's ProVee and SCCA FV National champion Brad Stout is scheduled to appear and we are hearing that many of the top Formula Vee racers in the country will be competing." The competitors have won at least 8 national championships and will include the top three finishers in the 2001 Valvoline Runoffs.

Formula Vees are single-seat, open-wheeled racing cars based on components from the first generation Volkswagen Beetle. The formula is quite restrictive and driver ability is put at a premium. The class is one of the oldest open-wheel classes raced in SCCA and one of the most competitive. Typically, the top ten cars race nose-to-tail for the entire race and the margin of victory is usually less than one second.

All Sports Car Club of America races at Summit Point are spectator-events. For information on obtaining tickets, contact Summit Point Raceway at (304) 725-8444 or office@bsr-inc.com.
