Hall makes title charge at Fran Am Finals
Friday morning found Charles Hall (GRB) 57 points behind front-runner Andrew Ranger (CAN); a nearly insurmountable lead with only three Championship races remaining given Ranger's consistent nature. After winning Round 12 of the 2003 FRAN AM 2000 North American Pro Championship Series at Arizona Motorsports Park, Hall is only 28 points out with two races to go.
Hall, driving for GTI Motorsports, benefited when Ranger was forced to retire after a spin on lap 16. Ranger's 16th place finish earned him only 5 points; leaving him with 298 points after 12 Rounds. Hall's victory and pole position gave him 34 points on the day and a total of 270.
Team FirstAir's Robert Bell (GRB) had his Title hopes extinguished as first turn contact forced him from the race and out of contention for the Championship Title. Along with Bell, Quantum's Sean McIntosh (CAN), Condor's Dominic Cicero (USA) and Series newcomer Julian Flamarique (ARG) were all forced from the race in the incident that resulted in 5 laps of full-course yellow.
Hall managed to lead the entire race despite constant pressure from Bell's FirstAir teammate Dan McMullen (CAN). McMullen managed the fast lap of the race on lap 15 with a 1:31.828 (91.828 mph) on the 2.25 mile, 16 turn road course on the west side of Phoenix. In the end, Hall crossed the finish line 0.532 sec ahead of McMullen.
AIM Autosport's Mark Wilkins (CAN) claimed the final podium position.
Round 13 will be held today and the season finale will be run Sunday at Arizona Motorsports Park.
