ANDREA BELICCHI, SUPERB IN COLLECTIVE PRACTICES

The Italian laps half of a second faster than the rest Antonio Garcia clocks second best lap time, 2/10 of a second faster than Burlotti Qualifying practices on Saturday

Donington Park, August 4 .- Italian driver Andrea Belicchi (Doors Engineering) clocked today best lap time in the collective practice session prior to the sixth round of the Open Telefonica, this weekend at Donington Park. Belicchi has confirmed his progression in the last events by being half of a second faster than the other competitors. The "battle" Garcia-Burlotti has been delayed to next Saturday. Today the Spaniard finished two tenths of a second ahead of Burlotti. Third-seeded in the overall standings, Portuguese Rui Aguas, was the negative surprise of the day. Aguas finished 11th. British weather has been as usual a major concern for drivers. Rain appeared at the beginning of the morning session and 45 minutes before the end in the afternoon. The slippery track surface provoked some spins, one of them by Rui Aguas. The Portuguese damaged badly the rear wing and could not take profit from the first session. No remarkable news in the afternoon session. Lap times were slightly improved, except those of Jean Christophe Ravier. The Frenchman was the only driver who decided to use new tyres and climbed from the 11th to 4th.
Results 1. Andrea Belicchi (ITA, Doors Engineering) 1:27.456 a 165,601 km/h 2. Antonio García (ESP, Adrián Campos Motorsport) a 0.568 3. Angel Burgueño (ESP, Ergoline EC Motorsport) a 0.631 4. Jean Christophe Ravier (FRA, Epsilon by Graff) a 0.675 5. Giuseppe Burlotti (ITA, Vergani Racing España) a 0.825
The sixth round of the series will be, no doubt, thrilling. Series leader Antonio Garcia is only 8 points ahead of Italian Giuseppe Burlotti. Aguas is back in series fight after being reclassified in the second race in Albacete and getting 15 points back.

No racing activity tomorrow at Donington. Qualifying practices due on Saturday. Races on Sunday, at 11.30 and 14.00 hours local time. Both F1 driver Marc Gené (Open winner in 1998) and F3000 driver Fernando Alonso (winner in 1999) will be at Donington.
