Andersen Walko Racing Continues to Lead the Way at Mid-Ohio
LEXINGTON, OHIO (August 6, 2004) - Andrew Prendeville, of Monroeville, Pa., posted the fastest time Friday, during practice for Rounds Thirteen and Fourteen of the Formula Ford Zetec Championship, part of the Cooper Tires Championship Series, at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Completing the top-three in practice is Adam Pecorari, of Aston, Pa. and Wade Cunningham, of Auckland, New Zealand.
Entering the closing stages of the 2004 season, the Zetec Championship had two practice sessions in preparation for the doubleheader on the technical 2.258-mile road course. Commencing early in the morning, the first session featured a brisk wind and cool temperatures. Working on car setups, the majority of the teams pitted numerous times during the session. After posting the fastest times in pre-event testing, Andersen Walko Racing teammates Prendeville and Pecorari once again posted the fastest times in the first session, with Prendeville toping the charts with a lap 1:23.024 (97.909 mph).
Under increased cloud cover, the second practice session got underway just prior to the lunch break. Despite two cars going off-course and being unable to continue, the 30-minute session was never halted. At the conclusion of practice, Pecorari and Prendeville were once again fastest, with Pecorari posting the fastest lap, 1:23.344 (97.533 mph).
"The team has once again given me a great car," said Prendeville, who leads the Zetec Championship standings by 10 points. "The car is actually better than when won here in June. We've still got a ways to go, but I feel confident about my chances this weekend."
Completing the top-five in practice is Ian Lacy, of Lake Havasu City, Ariz. and Bobby Wilson, of Dousman, Wis.
Qualifying for Round Thirteen of the Zetec Championship gets underway, Saturday, August 7, at 10:10 a.m.
