ST. PETERSBURG, FLA. (November 10, 2003) -The Formula Ford Zetec Championship, part of the Cooper Tires Championship Series, has announced a karting scholarship program. Nine drivers from Shifter Karts USA! and six drivers from Champ Car Stars of Tomorrow will be awarded scholarships.
The East and West Division ICC, ICA and 80 Junior class champions from the Stars of Tomorrow have been awarded free entry and test fees for the entire 2004 Zetec Championship season. The top-three finishers in the SuperPro, Formula S1 and 80 Junior classes at the SKUSA SuperNationals will also be awarded free entry and test fees for the 2004 Zetec Championship. Each award is valued at over $20,000.
"We are extremely pleased to offer these scholarships to the best young karters in North America," said Jon Baytos, Formula Ford Zetec Championship owner. "The Zetec Championship has a long history of supporting and developing young drivers and we look forward to working with these scholarship winners."
For over a decade, the Zetec Championship has been the choice of the top karters looking to move up the motorsports ladder. Past karting greats that have competed in the Zetec Championship includes Bryan Sellers, Jason LaPoint, Aaron Justus, Dan Wheldon, Marc-Antoine Camirand, David Besnard, Memo Gidley and Alex Barron.
Widely regarded as North America's premier open-wheel training series, the Zetec Championship offers a complete motorsports education, with emphasis on cost-effective racing. All the Zetec Championship cars are powered by the technically advanced 2.0-liter Ford Focus power plant and run on spec Cooper Zeon UHP tires. The 2004 schedule will be announced shortly and will feature 15 races on North America's premier race tracks.
The Zetec Championship will be conducting off-season testing November 24-25, 2003, at Roebling Road in Savannah, Ga.
