Pecorari Captures Fourth Consecutive Pole Position With Lap Record at Road America

ELKHART LAKE, WIS. (August 20, 2004) - Adam Pecorari, of Aston, Pa., captured the pole position for Round Fifteen of the Formula Ford Zetec Championship, part of the Cooper Tires Championship Series, at Road America. Completing the top-three is Ian Lacy, of Lake Havasu City, Ariz. and Bobby Wilson, of Dousman, Wis. Pecorari captured the pole position with a new qualifying lap record.

In ideal summer conditions, the Zetec Championship cars took to the track late Friday afternoon for qualifying. Setting the grid for the first race of the season-finale doubleheader, the drivers immediately attacked the fast 4.0-mile road course. Following two laps to get the Cooper Zeon tires up to optimal temperature, several drivers began positing their fastest laps of the weekend. Just past the 10-minute mark of the 30-minute session, Pecorari jumped to the top of the charts with a new qualifying lap record of 2:12.174 (108.947 mph). While several drivers improved their times as the session progressed, the track began to lose grip, preventing anyone from challenging Pecorari's time. At the checkered flag, Pecorari, in the No. 28 Grand Prix Distributing/SAI Hydraulics Andersen Walko Racing Van Diemen Ford, had captured his fourth consecutive pole position and third new qualifying lap record.

"To be honest I wasn't sure that lap would get me the pole," said Pecorari, who has won the last two rounds from the pole position. "I tried playing with the draft, but was quicker running by myself. I'm looking forward to the races, which are going to be a dog-fight."

Completing the top-five in qualifying for Round Fifteen is Wade Cunningham, of Auckland, New Zealand and Andrew Prendeville, of Monroeville, Pa. The green flag for Round Fifteen of the Formula Ford Zetec Championship is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. (local time), Saturday, August 21, 2004.
