MINT HILL, N.C. (November 24, 2003) -Richard Morgan Racing (RMR) has announced it will return to the Formula Ford Zetec Championship, part of the Cooper Tires Championship Series, full-time in 2004.
RMR returns to the Zetec Championship following a year in which the team dealt with a family tragedy and only contested the season-finale doubleheader. Prior to 2003, the North Carolina based team had been involved in the Zetec Championship since it's inception in 1995. A front-runner in the championship for numerous years, RMR captured at least one win and finished in the top-10 every season from 1997-2001. In 2001, the team captured its first Zetec Championship with rookie Jason LaPoint, after finishing second and third the previous two years. In addition to the Zetec Championship, RMR operates a successful SCCA National racing program, having won several championships.
Currently, RMR is scheduled to run a winter test program at Roebling Road, Carolina Motorsports Park and Virginia International Raceway, while continuing to search for drivers.
Widely regarded as North America's premier open-wheel training series, the Formula Ford Zetec Championship, part of the Cooper Tires Championship Series, offers a complete motorsports education, with emphasis on cost-effective racing. All the Zetec Championship cars are powered by the technically advanced 2.0-liter Ford Focus power plant and run on spec Cooper Zeon UHP tires. The 2004 schedule will be announced shortly and will feature 15 races on North America's premier race tracks.
