ST. PETERSBURG, FLA. (August 9, 2003) -- The Formula Ford 2000 Zetec Championship today announced that it has reached a five-year agreement with the Cooper Tire & Rubber Company as title sponsor.

Under the agreement with Formula Motorsports Inc., which owns and operates the Zetec Championship, Cooper Tires will create the Cooper Tires Championship Series. Racing under the Cooper Tires Championship Series umbrella, the Formula Ford 2000 Zetec Championship will now be called the Formula Ford Zetec Championship. Joining the Zetec Championship as part of the Championship Series, will be the SCCA Formula and Sports Racer.

"Cooper already has a rich racing heritage in Europe with our Avon racing tires," said Thomas A. Dattilo, chairman, president and chief executive officer, Cooper Tire & Rubber Company. "We are pleased to extend this expertise by providing the Cooper Tires Championship Series with our new Zeon UHP tires."

"We see a great future in our new partnership with Cooper Tires and the three championships that we will promote together," said Jon Baytos, Formula Motorsports President. "It is an excellent opportunity for the seasoned professional, as well as the young racer stepping up from karting to get the experience and exposure required to make an impact in motorsports."

Zetec Championship will continue to use the Van Diemen chassis powered by the 2.0-liter Ford Zetec powerplant, while the SCCA Formula and Sports Racer categories will feature the newly created Van Diemen RF-281 chassis with a 2.3-liter Mazda Duratec motor.

All three categories in the Championship Series will use the new Cooper Zeon Ultra High Performance (UHP) racing radials. Designed specifically for the Championship Series, the Cooper Zeon UHP features outstanding performance and durability.

The 2003 Formula Ford Zetec Championship part of the Cooper Tires Championship Series, continues with Rounds Nine and Ten at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, August 9-10, as part of the Champ Car Grand Prix of Mid-Ohio.
