JUSTUS ON A ROLL, TAKES MOSPORT POLE

BOWMANVILLE, Ontario, Canada (May 21, 1999) – Aaron Justus, of Vista, Calif., came off of his first career U.S. F2000 National Championship Presented by Speedvision win at Charlotte two weeks ago to take his first-career pole position at Mosport International Raceway in dominating fashion for Saturday's first of two races on the Victoria Day weekend.

Justus, driving the No. 24 Cape/Torco Racing Lubricants/MiR Van Diemen Ford, turned a lap of 1:21.293 (108.895 mph) to take the pole by nearly 0.8-second over Canadian Marc-Antoine Camirand. Justus was a mere 0.028-second off the track qualifying record set by Jason Bright in 1996.

"We made a bunch of changes to the car last night, and surprisingly, the car was perfect–that doesn't happen too often," said Justus, 25. "The car is dead-nuts on and I think I would have had the record the next lap if I wouldn't have made a little mistake in turn five. I think this is going to be a very good race."

Camirand, of Trois-Rivieres, Que., Can., recovered from a hard practice crash three hours prior to qualifying to set the second-best lap of 1:22.045 (107.896 mph), followed by points leader Dan Wheldon, of England, Mark Dismore, of Greenfield, Ind., and Steve Rikert, of Rhinebeck, N.Y. Guy Cosmo, of South Setauket, N.Y., took the ACC pole for older cars with a lap of 1:24.725 (104.483 mph).
