DOUBLE PODIUMS FOR MARCELLI IN SEASON FINALE
Barrie, Ontario (September 23rd 2008) - Rising Canadian talent Kyle Marcelli put his Brian Graham Racing prepared 2-litre race car on the podium for the last two rounds in the U.S. based Pro F2000 Championship Series this past weekend at the newly developed New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville, New Jersey.
For Marcelli the weekend was filled with ups and downs but was a good weekend overall. Thursday and Friday testing was clean and uninterrupted allowing the teams and drivers to get plenty of valuable seat time on the new race course.
The fun however began Saturday morning in quailing for race one. Series rookie standout Kyle Marcelli had an exciting battle with fellow competitor Anders Krhon for the pole position. The race course was very hard on front tires so minimal laps in qualifying was key to having a good car for the race. Marcelli did a quick three lap run, one warm up and two flyers. Crossing the line with the fastest lap of the session it was good enough for pole position. As Marcelli entered the pits, Anders took to the track only to take over the top spot. With time narrowing down, Marcelli hen strapped up for one more shot at it. This time only doing a two lap run, the first time by the stripe was the start of his hot lap. Under pressure Marcelli ran a super fast mistake free re-taking the pole position. You could see the excitement in everyone as they were all over pit wall with there stop watched out keeping a close eye on the duo. As the session ended Khron was able to put in another flyer taking over the pole by a very close margin of 0.027 of a second. Overall it was a very exciting qualifying session ending with Krohn and Marcelli on the front row.
Race one of the double header weekend witnessed multiple full-course cautions before the checkered flew with Marcelli crossing the stripe a close second earning the first podium finish of the weeknd. Sunday qualifying was similar to Saturday. With Marcelli and Krhon consistently showing the fastest speed in the series they again sat on the front row for the start of Sunday's race. Marcelli wasn't so lucky off the start. As the first four corners are all right handers he was forced wide and pushed back to sixth by the completion of lap one. Quickly picking off positions in the opening laps Marcelli climbed his way back into the top three before having gearbox problems. With about 8 laps to go Marcelli did what he could to keep a fast pace eventually earning a very well respected third place in the ultra competitive open wheel series.
"New Jersey Motorsports Park was a super facility; it's always good to have new race tracks developed. Overall I'm happy with our weekend and he conculsion of the championship, obviously a win would have been nicer but it's good to be on the podium again. All season we have proved to be one to beat and that's definitely an accomplishment in our rookie season. The BGR team did a great job preparing my car, Brian has been such a help all season with me both on and off the track. I want to thank everyone for there support and help in making my accomplishments possible." Says Marcelli
