Lally to Start Ninth in Saturday's F2000 Race
HOMESTEAD, Fla., May 15 - Andy Lally of Northport, N.Y., earned the ninth qualifying spot out of 37 competitors in U.S. Formula 2000 action at the Homestead Motorsports Park Friday afternoon. He'll start in the inside of the fifth row beside Christian Coggins in tomorrow's F2000 race, the first half of a doubleheader here this weekend.
"The guys put a super hustle in before and during the qualifying session to get us the best car I've had all weekend," Lally said. "We have a good car to race with, so I'm happy.
"We made a camber adjustment in front during the qualifying session. And before the session, the guys did about two days' work in about four hours today. They changed the entire back half of my car - including the transmission and shock set-up; everything - before qualifying."
This is the series' first appearance ever at Homestead, and finding the right set-up is a challenge. The other Highcroft entry, driven by Duncan Dayton of North Salem, N.Y., will start 21st. Two other Bowman chassis in the field, which are being driven by Anthony Simone and Dan Della Penna, will start 28th and 32nd, respectively.
David Besnard won the pole for an automatic new track record. Series newcomer Marc Antoine Camirand will start second and Robby McGehee will start third.
Tomorrow's 22-lap race is scheduled to begin at 1:15 p.m., but qualifying for Sunday's race will be held prior to that at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow morning.
